MarcEdit 101
MarcEdit 101 is a basic introduction to MarcEdit. The tutorial provides step by step instructions on how to
break and make MARC records. It also shows how to change MarcEdit options, and introduces users to the
MarcEditor and its many MARC editing functions.
Using templates (.mot files) in MarcEdit
Like many word processors, MarcEdit's MarcEditor has the ability to utilize template files to allow
users to create default template files that can be used to reduce the amount of repetitive data needing to
be typed.
Using the MarcEdit Script Maker
New to MarcEdit 4.1+ is a new add-in called the MarcEdit Script Maker. The MarcEdit Script Maker has been
designed to help novice users create simple scripts to automate simple maintenance tasks. For those with a scripting
background, the Script Maker can be used to simply generate a common script framework, saving the coder from typing
hundreds of lines of code. Please be aware that this tutorial is a work in progress.
Using MarcEdit and III's Journal Title Search
For III library's wanting to have aggregator record sets (like Ebsco) show up in the Journal Title Search, you currently
have only one option -- add the 229 field to each record by hand. Well, with MarcEdit, and a very simple vbscript,
this process is a snap. This tutorial takes you through a step by step process, providing you with examples and
the script needed to make the changes. Script and tutorial comes from a presentation that I gave at the NWIUG 2001
entitled: "Automating Database Maintenance".
