My mother was a McDougall. She is decended from Archibld
McDougall who left Greenoch, Scotland and immigrated to Montreal, Quebec,
Canada in 1822. His family finally settled in Livingston County, Illinois.
The left image is the MacDougall crest. The right image is of a piper at Dunollie Castle, which was the castle of the MacDougall clan chief. It sits on the west coast of Scotland in Oban, overlooking the Hebrides (islands on the west coast of Scotland)
German side:
My grandfather, Joachim Diedrich Thies, left Hesedorf Germany in 1886 to settle in North Dakota.
Joachim Diedrich's grandfather, Johann Christian Hinrich Caspar Thies, founded the school building at Hesedorf , a small town in northern Germany, near Hamburg. The shield image is that of Hesedorf.
